Where can kids eat for less this summer?

25/07/2022

With the summer holidays now upon us, and given the ongoing cost of living crisis, the question of how local families can save money and eat for less is front of mind for many of us. In a bid to assist local families who might be facing financial hardship during these extremely challenging times, the Gosport Food Partnership has identified some helpful resources.

The good news is that there are some great deals available, ranging from kids eating for just £1 from Asda in Newgate Lane; a free kids meal with every adult meal purchased (for £4.99 or more) in Morrisons (Gosport High Street), and many restaurants offering kids meals for £1 with the purchase of an adult meal (such as Café Rouge, Bella Italia and the Hungry Horse, among others).

Locally, there are also some healthy/food-related activities for children who receive free schools meals (such as Rowner Community Trust’s Holiday Activities and Food scheme). In addition, for young people born between 1/9/2005 and 31/8/2010, there is the brilliant Gosport’s Summer Passport scheme, organised by the Gosport Community Safety Partnership. Furthermore, Hampshire charity, Y Services for Young People, are offering four weeks of Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) at the Freedom Centre in Elson, Gosport, and at the Genesis Centre, in Locks Heath, Fareham.

For more hints and tips on how to make savings this summer on food and drink, the MoneySavingExpert website can offer a wealth of useful information.

Do you know of any additional resources on offer to help local families reduce food, drink and healthy leisure costs this summer? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
