Welcoming…. Annette Wincott!

19/07/2022

The GVA team is growing!

We’re delighted to announce the recruitment of Annette Wincott, who joined GVA last month as Coordinator for our ever-popular Ramblers Wellbeing Walks in and around Gosport. Working as a part of the GVA Welfare Team, Annette’s diverse and rich skillset has already proven invaluable in her short time in post thus far. Moreover, Annette’s warm and friendly nature will no doubt be a vital asset in her new role, particularly as she seeks to support walk leaders and walkers alike, and encourage and reassure our newer walkers that walking really is for everyone, no matter age or fitness level.

A qualified adult tutor and chef, Annette spent seven-and-a-half years working for Portsmouth City Council in the Sure Start Centres as a Food Health Project worker and Food Hygiene tutor. Alongside three other project workers, Annette also ran healthy eating and cooking sessions at the centres.

Following local government redundancy 11 years ago, Annette resolutely rose to the challenge and went on to build up a vast and impressive range of experience in roles as varied as project work, gardening and tutoring, as well as mentoring and supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism.

Like a true ‘GVA-er’, Annette is passionate about helping others to realise their full potential. With demonstrable experience in tackling obstacles with determination and enthusiasm, all whilst adopting a creative approach to helping people achieve their own positive outcomes, Annette has an array of professional and personal strings to her bow that will be of real value to not only the GVA team, but also to anyone in our community looking to boost their health and wellbeing through walking.

Reflecting on her new position at Gosport Voluntary Action, Annette says: “I am looking forward to working with the team at GVA, and with the groups of walks as the Walks Co-ordinator. I have a love of walking and have spent a lot of time, over the years, with groups or friends, walking around Portsmouth and the surrounding areas, including the beautiful South Downs way. I look forward to sharing my experiences of walking with the groups with full enthusiasm.”

Annette is a woman of many talents, and – when not working or walking – can often be found performing and sharing her love of music, either on the African drums or as a singer. As a key member of both an African Drumming Djembe group and an African women’s choir, Annette has performed in many places around the South Coast and Hampshire, including the highly revered Victorious Festival in Portsmouth!

What’s clear as day to us is that Annette Wincott is a formidable, friendly and fabulous force to be reckoned with, and we’re obviously thrilled to welcome her into the GVA fold. If you might be interested in joining Annette & co. on a wellbeing walk, or if you’d like some more information to help you get started, please drop Annette a line on annette.wincott@gva.org.uk, or give her a call on 02392 583836. More details about our walks can also be found via the GVA Ramblers webpage.
