We know that at least one in four patients see their doctor for pure social problems and welfare advice. For this group of patients, social prescribing has been shown to improve quality of life and emotional well-being, mental and general well-being, as well as improving levels of depression and anxiety. However, social prescribing does more than that. Emerging evidence has shown that social prescribing can play a key role in tackling the social determinants of ill health as well as supporting the increasing number of patients suffering from chronic diseases.
