Everybody needs good neighbours – Lee on Solent needs Dustbusters!

Jan and Tracy standing outside their houses and smiling with arms linkedThese lovely ladies are Jan and Tracy.  Jan and Tracy are neighbours, friends and now fellow Dustbusters, working within their Lee-on-the-Solent community.  Jan has worked for Dustbusters going as far back as the late 90s, with a short break and coming back to us in 2008.  Tracy joined the team more recently in July this year and has been a wonderful addition with her commitment and care for her clients.  We are so grateful to have had Jan for so many years, also for her commitment, for always going above and beyond and for generally representing exactly what Dustbusters is all about.  We are also beyond grateful to Jan for recommending the self-employed Dustbusters role to her good friend and neighbour!

Jan has supported countless vulnerable clients within Lee-on-the-Solent, helping to keep people living independently in their own homes and always casting a caring eye over their overall wellbeing.  Being a Dustbuster is more than being a cleaner; it’s being a friend and an often a much-needed source of support. Jan and Tracy both expressed how much they enjoy their work and the satisfaction it gives them, as they make a huge difference to their clients’ day-to-day lives.

The self-employed aspect of the role seems to be a barrier for some applicants, so to reassure potential applicants, we asked Jan how she finds this. As she isn’t a fan of computers, Jan said: “I have always completed my self-assessment every year in April, by post, and I have never had a problem. I call HMRC, they send the form and I complete and return”. Tracy on the other hand prefers to do hers online; we asked Tracy how she found the registration process: “It was fairly simple; they have a step by step process and it was pretty quick.”

Whilst it is the responsibility of the worker to register and complete their self-assessments accordingly, the office staff will always help to give direction and guidance where they can.  Jan and Tracy are such valued members of the team in a community where we are currently struggling to meet the growing demand.  If you would like to know more about becoming a Dustbuster in your community, please contact our friendly office on 02392 601314, or find out more about the service at:
