Gosport Volunteer Awards: here’s what what you need to know

25/05/2022

It’s been a busy few weeks here at Gosport Voluntary Action, with several members of our staff and volunteers having been all stations go in preparation for a Gosport community calendar highlight, otherwise known as the Gosport Volunteer Awards! Yet suddenly, in the blink of an eye, the big day (or rather, evening!) is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to welcome and celebrate a whole host of local community champions and kind-hearted changemakers on Wednesday, 1st June 2022, at The Alverbank Hotel, Gosport.

All nominated Gosport Volunteer Award winners should have received an email update from us, detailing the ins and outs of what to expect on the night. In case you missed that, fear not, as we’re also sharing this key information for our Award Winners here below, via a few handy FAQs.

Can’t find what you’re looking for? If you still have more questions about the upcoming Gosport Volunteer Awards Ceremony, or if you’ve not heard from us by email about this, but believe you should have, please contact Angela Gould (angela.gould@gva.org.uk) or Bethany Fisher  (bethany.fisher@gva.org.uk), or give us a call during office hours on 02392 583836.

Gosport Volunteer Award Winners – important information:

Where is the event being held?

The event will be held at the Alverbank Hotel on Stokes Bay Road, Alverstoke, Gosport, PO12 2QT.

What time does the event start and finish?

The Gosport Volunteer Awards will be held from 6pm to 9pm at The Alverbank Hotel, though doors will open from 5pm.

Will there be a sit-down meal?

We will be offering a light buffet of sandwiches.

Will there be a seating plan?

Yes, we have allocated seating, grouping volunteers from the same organisation together where applicable, and joining them with volunteers from other organisations. We have arranged for 11 tables to be available for up to 120 guests.

Will there be on-site parking?

Yes, car parking is available (free of charge). However, priority parking will be given to those with mobility issues. We will have designated car park attendants to help direct people as needed. Alternative parking is available in Western Way, Gomer Lane (Bay House School, Layby) or Stokes Bay Road (near the Static Home Site). This will involve a 5-10-minute walk (approx.) to The Alverbank Hotel.

Is the venue accessible for wheelchair users?

Yes, the venue is on ground level and a ramp is available upon entrance.

Can I bring a guest?

Unfortunately, on this occasion guests are not invited. As this is our first Awards Ceremony in two years (as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic) we have a much higher than usual number of volunteers to celebrate, which is fantastic! However, this also means that we have reached the maximum capacity for the venue, and we therefore thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Is the event open to the public?

No, sadly not. The Alverbank Hotel is closed to the public from Monday to Wednesday, but they have kindly agreed to host our Volunteers Awards Ceremony, as a ‘by invitation only’ event. Therefore, the hotel is not able to accommodate any other persons, whether it be in the hotel or garden. Our thanks again for your understanding and support in this matter.

Is there a dress-code?

There is no strict dress code for the event, but as we consider the evening to be a pretty special occasion for everyone involved, please feel free to dress up. or simply come along in whatever attire makes you feel comfortable and happy!

And… that’s a wrap on our logistics prep for the Gosport Volunteer Awards (for now!) Again, if you’d like clarification or further support on any of the points raised above, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Gosport Volunteer Awards Team via email (on angela.gould@gva.org.uk or bethany.fisher@gva.org.uk), or by phone (02392 583836). In the meantime, we’ll all be counting down in eager anticipation ahead of next week’s grand ceremony, and we look forward to seeing lots of our fabulous volunteers to celebrate and showcase your many wonderful contributions that have helped to build a stronger, kinder and more sustainable community for us all here in Gosport Borough.

See you very soon, award winners!

NB. Nominations for Volunteer Award Winners are now CLOSED, but for a refresher on the whys and what fors of the Gosport Volunteer Awards – and in case we can whet your appetite to nominate a volunteer next year – please see our original Gosport Volunteer Awards announcement here.
