A Successful Online AGM and a First for GVA

27/10/2020

In an unexpected first for GVA, we held our AGM on Zoom on Tuesday 20 October, due to the COVID-19 restrictions.  40 people were in attendance and we heard from the Mayor of Gosport, Councillor Zoe Huggins, as well as GVA staff members and Chair of Trustees Ian Reeves.  In a change from the normal show of hands, members and trustees were asked to vote via the reactions on Zoom, and we even managed to play a video on Surgery Signposting for all to watch.

The Mayor highlighted the 14,718 volunteer hours recorded by GVA in the 2019/2020 period, saying: “When we look at these achievements and the frontline services that we offer as GVA, they’re astonishing. This really shows that our community is united and the value that volunteering and GVA gives back to our community.”

Ian Reeves, Chair, confirmed the upcoming retirement of Nicky Staveley, GVA’s Chief Officer, at the end of the year, saying: “I know she has done so much for GVA over the years, and the wider community, and in many ways is seen as GVA.  Personally, I’m going to miss Nicky, her wise counsel to keep me on the straight and narrow and invaluable insight into the community.”

The event also featured informative presentations on the Close Encounters project (by Nicky Stavely), Surgery Signposting (by Angela Gill), Gosport’s C-19 Community Response (by Lisa Powell) and the RECOVERY project (by Mandy Bright).
