A Platinum Jubilee celebration to remember at Stoke Road

17/06/2022

A couple of weeks ago, we were all in the midst of a weekend to remember, as friends, families, neighbourhoods and communities across the country came together to honour and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth II on 6th February, 1952.

On Saturday, 4th June, thousands of #Gosport Borough residents joined the Stoke Road Traders Association to mark the momentous #PlatinumJubilee. With live music and fun events, people learned about the seven decades of The Queen’s life and reign.

There was something going on down the whole length of the road: pavement performances belted out music; people danced along; flags were flying, and families were smiling as the community showed what a great place #Gosport is.

All of this fun was brought about by the hard work of the Stoke Road Traders Association Community group and Gosport Voluntary Action. They have been planning this event since January, and were successful in gaining funding from The National Lottery Community Fund ‘Awards For All’ grants: this helped with purchase of the flags and the entertainment.

So many people commented and said how wonderful the day was – there were even comparisons to it being like Albert Road in Southsea!

Thank you to everyone who came along, including the Mayor of Gosport. The uplifting sense of unified community spirit was stronger than ever, and long may it continue
