What is the service?
Driving Force is Gosport Voluntary Action’s transport service for individuals who are unable to drive or take public transport. The service has been set up to help people achieve more independence at a very reasonable rate.
Our friendly volunteer drivers use their own cars to provide the service and are all DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked.
We can help you with transport for reasons such as:
- Medical appointments
- Visiting clubs and friends
- Shopping trips
Who is eligible for the service?
Gosport residents who are unable to drive or take public transport, generally due to being elderly or disabled, are eligible for the service.
Is there a cost for the service?
Yes, the cost of the service is 45p per mile, (from the volunteer’s home), to cover petrol and wear and tear of the vehicles, paid directly to the driver.
How can the service be accessed?
For more information or to use the service please contact the Driving Force Co-ordinator on 023 9258 3836 or firstname.lastname@example.org
We ask that as much notice as possible is given, although we will always try to help!
Would you like to become a volunteer driver?
If you would like to use your own car to provide personal door to door transport for someone who may be disabled, older or frail, or transport a young person from school to foster home or after school clubs, we would love to hear from you. You will need a clean driving licence, a telephone so we can contact you and to undergo a DBS check. We can provide out of pocket expenses, the opportunity to meet new people and a great sense of achievement by helping others in the community. If you would like to find out more, please view our volunteer role here, or contact Go Volunteer, our volunteer support service on 02392 588347 or email@example.com.
