Is there a cost for the service?
Yes, our non-profit service costs are:
£9 per hour for the Mend and Tend service (as of 1 April 2021) – paid directly to your Mend and Tend worker at the end of each visit. A receipt will be issued.
£10.00 per month for administration of the service (not charged for months when you do not use the service) – paid to Gosport Voluntary Action. The fee is to ensure a continuous and reliable service. It also enables us to recruit quality, reliable gardeners/handypersons to provide the service. Payment can be returned by post or paid by BACS if preferred.
Is there anything else required?
We ask that you are able to supply the materials beforehand, including tools, or alternatively give the Mend and Tend workers the money to purchase any items before the work begins. Mend and Tend workers have been instructed not to buy any materials without first agreeing the cost and receiving the money from the customer.
Money must always be in cash unless a cheque payment or bank transfer has been agreed.
An estimate of the number of hours it will take to finish the work will be given by the Mend and Tend workers. Please let him/her know how much you can afford to spend before they start the work.
Gosport Borough Council tenants may be eligible to borrow tools from the tool library to maintain and improve their gardens for free.
Gosport Borough Council also offer a Garden Waste Recycling Scheme. More details are available here.
We ask you to inform us if you are going away on holiday, have hospital visits or are away for any other reason.
Responsibility for any accidental damage lies with the customer.

Mend and Tend workers are recruited on a self-employed basis. They are not professionals, however they are people with relevant experience and good DIY skills as well as being reliable, honest and trustworthy.
Mend and Tend workers have submitted two references and have all undergone a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) check. For your safety, they will carry Gosport Voluntary Action identity cards.
As we rely on locally based workers to provide this service, it may not be possible to do your work immediately. We will add your name to our waiting list and then contact you when someone is free to help.
